Take a tour in one of the world’s most ancient vineyards and taste wines from Crete, the largest island of Greece. In this immersive experience you will have the chance to taste wines and enjoy a guided wine tasting led by the film’s director, Chrisa Giorgi. Explore the wines that come from the old vines of Crete, once cultivated by the ancient civilization of the Minoans, and let your palate experience the unique flavors of indigenous grape varieties, a multi-sensory experience you wouldn’t want to miss. After the tasting you will have a chance to watch the award-winning documentary about the wines of Crete “In the Wine Dark Sea” and have a Q&A with the film director.
ABOUT THE FILM
Through a colorful mosaic of stories, this documentary film aims to demystify Crete as a winemaking region and offers a rare insider glimpse into the indigenous grape varieties, and the people behind them. The viewer travels through the vineyards found in the valleys and the mountains of Crete and discovers the secrets of eleven grape varieties and tastes the life and winemaking philosophy of eleven passionate producers. Filmed, edited and directed entirely by Chrisa Giorgi, the project reveals the ancient grape varieties and the unique terroir of Crete and guides us in a journey through time, following the paths of Homer to discover “the island called Crete, in the midst of the Wine Dark Sea”.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR, CHRISA GIORGI
Chrisa Giorgi, Director, Producer: Born and raised in Crete, Greece, Chrisa holds a degree in Political Science and a master’s in Political Analysis from the University of Crete. She has a background as a radio and newspaper journalist. She is Wine and Spirits Education Trust Certified. She makes films about wine with the goal to give Greek wine the position it deserves on the global wine map.
CRETAN WINE EXPERIENCE TO FOLLOW SCREENING:
Enjoy different offerings of Cretan wine to follow after the screening in the foyer of the Maliotis Cultural Center. We will be featuring five different Cretan wineries who are focused and dedicated to producing wines from native Cretan grape varieties with sustainable practices. There will also be appetizers catered for the wine experience.
